About the Author
Michael W Parsons, Ph.D., ABPP, graduated from the University of Virginia and earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed an internship at the University of Florida/Shands Medical Center and a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). He has been on the faculty of MCW briefly before joining the faculty of West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he attained the rank of Associate Professor. During his 7 years at WVU, Dr. Parsons directed the clinical psychology internship program and developed a program for clinical fMRI. He joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2007, serving as Staff in the Section of Neuropsychology with appointments in the Center for Behavioral Health and the Burkhardt Brain Tumor Center.

Thomas Alan Hammeke, PhD, ABPP, graduated summa cum laude from Fort Hays State University and attained his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of South Dakota. He completed an internship at the Clement J. Zablocki VAMC in Milwaukee and subsequently a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). He was Professor and Director of the Department of Neurology at the MCW for 25 years before he transitioned to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at MCW in 2010 and became the lead neuropsychologist for the Polytrauma Program at Zablocki VAMC and the preceptor for a postdoctoral residency program in clinical neuropsychology. He was honored with the Distinguished Neuropsychologist Award from the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology in 2013.

A very good resource for neurologists

This book achieves its stated purpose very well. I'd recommend it to other neurologists who want to understand clinical Neuropsychology better. The chapter on the neurobehavioral examination is directly applicable to neurologists' practice.

Must Have Neuro Book

This 3rd edition of Clinical Neuropsychology offers the essentials for understanding complex neurologic illness in a pithy chapter format. It has grown in size and weight since the first edition, but this increase parallels the increase in useful information for a graduate student, non-neuropsychologist or a practicing neuropsychologist. My wife, a pediatric neuropsychologist, used this text (with others) to prep for her written Board exam last week, which was about 85% adult disorders. It helped her pass the first time.
I bought copies and gave to all my staff members, junior or senior.

Useful pocket guide as an intro to euro

I purchased this pocket guide as a component to other text materials when transitioning from clinical psychology to neuropsychology. It was useful, provided sufficient examples, and helped differentiate the different forms of dementia rather well. All in all, I would recommend this book for those who look to strengthen their assessment of neuropsychological conditions. However, those who are more advanced in the field, may find this book to be pretty basic.

This book is succinct and practical. It explains the concepts, data structures and C/C++ coding for the stages in video compression: video format conversion, DCT, quantization, run-level coding, Huffman (entropy) coding and the corresponding reverse stages (decoding) were all presented in C/C++. There are also topics on motion estimation and compensation; as well as SDL programming. Indeed, the C/C++ implementations made this book unique. While not recommended for beginners in C/C++, the book is a good reference for implementation of video compression.

I read the book on the book's web site.
The book is well written and covers all the
basic topics of video compression, including
run length encoding, DCT, quantization,
Huffman encoding, integer arithmetic, motion estimation,
and motion compensation. It also shows how to write
programs to play video files using SDL. The codes are presented
in an introductory level in C/C++ though some C++ STL
functions are used to enhance the programs.

I think this book is good and practical

I think this book is good and practical. I could not find many books talking about the video codecs, and most of them tend to skip the actual implementation part. This book not only introduced theory like DCT, huffman, inter-frame/intra-frame etc, but also walked through the actual code to implement a working video codec, which I found very useful.

The major factors promoting the increasingly active use of SAXS/SANS are modern high brilliance X-ray and neutron sources, novel data analysis methods, and automation of the experiment, data processing and interpretation.

In this book, following the presentation of the basics of scattering from isotropic macromolecular solutions, modern instrumentation, experimental practice and advanced analysis techniques are explained. Advantages of X-rays (rapid data collection, small sample volumes) and of neutrons (contrast variation by hydrogen/deuterium exchange) are specifically highlighted. Examples of applications of the technique to different macromolecular systems are considered with specific emphasis on the synergistic use of SAXS/SANS with other structural, biophysical and computational techniques.

What a weird selection?!

I am horribly over familiar with the work of E.E. "Doc" Smith. I had all of the books in the 1970s when they were reprinted, and they remain my comfort reading, because they are fun, fast paced and easy reading.

It is fantastic that there is an electronic version of these books; they are actually hard to obtain in print form, but, and this is the sole reason for my rating, this is a bizarre selection of books.

The "Skylark" series is four books in length, "The Skylark of Space", "Skylark Three", "Skylark of Valeron", and "Skylark Duquesne"

A separate series consist of seven "Lensman" books: "Triplanetary", "First Lensman", "Galactic Patrol", "Grey Lensman", "Second Stage Lensman" "Children of the Lens" and "Masters of the Vortex". Of these, the first 6 are effectively a single narrative and hang together; the final book is a slightly odd addition but is set in the same universe.

Thus this collection contains books 1 & 2 of the first series and book 1 of the second. Why? It would be so much better to have the complete sets.

Old-school sci-fi

Wonderful old-school sci-fi. Don't expect Stephen Hawking science, sometimes the science is silly. But these stories are an excellent blend of triumph over adversity, exploration, thrills, romance and old-fashioned good versus bad. Well worth reading.

Worst execution of an Omnibus I have ever seen.

The stories themselves are good, what I am rating is the "omnibus".
First book in a series, third book in that series then a random book from another series does not an omnibus make.
My recommendation is to find the stories separately or you will find yourself ruining the skylark series with spoilers from part 3 without reading part 2.
